  10. 19. An old treasure map has the following instructions:

Stand next to the black rock and face West. Walk 20 yards and then turn 90 degrees clockwise
Walk another 10 yards and then turn 45 degrees anticlockwise. Walk another 15 yards, reverse your direction and walk 5 yards back. Turn 135 degrees clockwise and walk another 10 yards. In which direction are you now facing?
    A.W
    B. N
    C. NW
    D.SE

    1. Since the finding should be direction. The distance traveled by the person is immaterial.

NOTE: 1. I am considering the reversal as 180 degrees clock wise. it can be taken in anti clockwise direction as well.

      Total turning taken in Clockwise direction – 90+180+135 = 360+45 = 45

      1. Total turning taken in Anti clockwise direction – 45

Result is 45-45=0. Hence, facing the west direction.

  11. 20. In seeking to deny Iran atomic weapons, the Security Council’s focus so far has been on curbing uranium enrichment. Uranium, when enriched above a 90 per cent level, can be used for making atomic weapons. Iran has enriched most of its uranium to a level of five per cent. However, since February, it has begun enrichment to a 20-per cent level. The Iranians argue that they need a 20-per cent level to eventually fabricate the nuclear fuel necessary to produce medical isotopes required for treatment of cancer.
The five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany have called upon Iran to halt uranium enrichment — a demand it has refused to meet. The global powers have been especially alarmed at Iran’s 20 per cent enrichment for, they fear that unless checked, this could be a stepping stone for Tehran purifying uranium to a weapon-grade level. As for the five per cent uranium stockpile, there has been a concerted attempt, led by the West, to remove the bulk of this material to locations outside Iran. Which of the following is the chief motivating factor for USA’s determined opposition to Iran?

  12. A. Iran has a huge stock pile of Uranium enriched up to five percent. It proposes to enrich it further up to 20 percent. The five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany are opposed to it. If not checked now, Iran may proceed further.
    B. Iran says that this level of enrichment is required to fabricate the fuel necessary to produce the medical isotopes required for the treatment of cancer. Iran can then stop importing these isotopes from the West. The west would lose its business.
    C. The Permanent members of the Security Council and Germany say that this is a dangerous step since Iran, if not checked, can enrich Uranium into weapon grade material. That would put Israel in danger. Israel is the guardian of Western interests in West Asia.
    D. Saudi Arabia has a huge territory adjoining Iran where at most of its oil wells are located and the majority population here is Shia which backs Iran. If Iran makes a nuclear weapon , it can easily bully Saudi Arabia, which is the largest producer of oil, not to supply oil to the USA.

  13. Dear prof. I’d say its combination of C and D – predominantly C because its true that Israel is an outport of Wet in the middle east. And Iran and Israel have a histroy of bitter acrimony towards each other. And on meor important point I think is the wests fear of Islamic nuclear bomb(though Pakistan has the bomb – , but consequences of Iran having it in a very volatile and resource rich middle east amke it a different ball game alltogather. ). Also the Suadies worries are also genuine (but not because the shia equaton though whic are minority in saudi arabia.) Their relation have been under stain since the Iranian revoluton of 1989. Also saudi arabia is sunni majority and iran is shia majority which also complicates the relation. So under these cicumstances saudi arabia would never want a nuclear armed neighbour.
